What is a Rudraksha Calculator?
A Rudraksha Calculator uses Vedic astrology — specifically your Rashi (zodiac sign), Nakshatra (birth star), and the ruling Graha (planet) — to determine which Mukhi (faceted) Rudraksha bead is most beneficial for you. In classical texts, each Mukhi corresponds to a specific deity and planetary energy. The Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad, one of the 108 canonical Upanishads, prescribes the spiritual properties and planetary associations of each Mukhi in detail.
By entering your date of birth, birth time, and birth place, the calculator identifies your ruling planet and maps it to the correct Mukhi per these classical prescriptions. This removes guesswork and gives you a personalized, scripture-backed recommendation. For a deeper understanding of Rudraksha types and their significance, see our complete Rudraksha guide.
How Does the Rudraksha Calculator Work?
The computation follows a three-step classical process:
- Compute your Rashi — From your date of birth, birth time, and birth place, the calculator determines your Moon sign (Chandra Rashi) for accurate planetary mapping.
- Identify your Nakshatra and its ruling Graha — Each Nakshatra is governed by one of the 9 Grahas (planets). Your birth Nakshatra's lord is the key to your Rudraksha recommendation.
- Map the Graha to its corresponding Mukhi — Classical texts prescribe a specific Mukhi for each planetary energy. The calculator returns this Mukhi along with its ruling deity, activation mantra, and wearing instructions.
The calculator requires your complete birth data — date, time, and place — to compute your Chandra Rashi (Moon sign) with precision to the Nakshatra Pada. This ensures the most accurate Rudraksha recommendation based on your true ruling planet. You can also find your Rashi using the Rashi Finder tool.
The 9 Grahas and Their Mukhis
Each of the 9 Grahas (Navagraha) in Vedic astrology corresponds to a specific Mukhi Rudraksha. This mapping is rooted in the Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad and the Shiva Purana:
